Product Description
The end of the 1980s saw Real Betis caught up in a fight to preserve their La Liga status. In the 1987-88 season, the team under English coach John Mortimore finished in 16th place, just 2 points above the relegation zone. The highlight came with a great derby win away at Sevilla. The following season saw a further dip despite the goals of the evergreen Hipolito Rincón and an 18th place finish brought a relegation play-off which was lost to Tenerife. The 1989-90 season proved much brighter with an immediate return to the top flight, a promotion inspired by the 22 goals of newly arrived forward Pepe Mel.
Real Betis is arguably one of the most fascinating teams in Spain, where the love for the club is passed down through generations. Estadio Benito Villamarín is a must-visit for every football fan!
